Does anyone know of a place that sells IR connectors? I got an Epox 7KXA mobo and would like to sync palm wirelessly. How fast is IR compared to Serial?

yea, i checked the epox site and it had no info on where to get em, I also checked a few online stores which didnt have anything i was lookin for except external IR devices that you plug into USB port.
MattStone what mobo do u have?

I got an ASUS IRM-100 for $15 from egghead many moons ago. I could not get it to work reliably on my BH6 though, at least not with remote control software and my remotes.

a few companies make the ir modules that plug into the motherboard.
actisys makes one.
JD Research has one too.
and as mentioned, asus has one too

but these are generally jacked up in price.

another solution is to make your own 🙂

circuit is really simple but finding the irda transceiver might be a bit hard. i just ordered a batch of 20 so I'm all set 😛

hmm, maybe i'll go into business 🙂

oh and about speed, the ir connectors you generally find out there are limited to 115.2kbps so it's not blazingly fast but should be adequate for most people.
they have 4Mbps ones for USB but i haven't seen a 4megabit motherboard one..
