So... Can anyone think of a reason the plug-ins won't install... FF gets stuck on the "installing missing plug-ins" screen...

Some plugins may have been updated in a new location, who knows? You shouldn't depend on the update button in Firefox, try googling for that particular plugin as most have a development webpage which will give you their up-to-date status.

I think it's because of the way the extensions' ini file is worded. Supposedly a lot of Firefox extensions are worded to the effect "supports up to Firefox 9.x" so the installer barfs when it is being installed on a later version. Supposedly you can easily fix this by changing the version number in the extensions' ini file.

There's plenty of info about this over at the Mozilla Firefox Forums, and they can probably explain it for you without half talking out their a$$ like I've been. :)

You have to mark the plug-in download site as "Allowed" before FireFox will download and install the plug-in. Under Tools / Options / Web Features, click on the Allowed Sites button next to "Allow web sites to install software." Add the site, then attempt to download the plug-in again.
