The sales guy tried to sell the $69 Monster cable to me. Too bad I was so sick of that overpriced brand. So where can I get some good cables for <$20?

RadioShack 6 ft. or 12 ft. cables are decent values. Good component cables are well-shielded, 75 Ohm, RG-6 cables.

If you just bought a 1300 dollar TV, do yourself a favor a buy some decent cables. Monsters may be pricey, but their build quality is excellent.

walmart.com has RCA 6' for 17.96 and Philips PXT 6' for 23.82 which looks very well built. I'm wondering whether thereis a difference between the two.

you should have had them included with the TV.
It probably cost them 5 bucks for the cable. You bought a 1000+ TV. They could have atleast thrown in the cable.

Threaten to return it

Ah, Acoustic Research, that's the name I was trying to remember! Yes, AR has a good rep for high quality, reasonably priced cables.

nice tip. thx! bestbuy has the AR cables for 30. ebay has the same one for like 14. nice!

As long as the gauge of the wire is large enough for the distance, it's shielded, and the connectors don't corrode, you're good to go.
You can spend more than you have to, and some here will try to convince you to do that, but it's wasted money.
Just go the The Cube (Radio Shack).

you absolutely cannot beat the price or quality at pccables.com

shipping can be high if you only need one or two things though
