Newegg has an 8GB flash voyager for $10 after MIR, and many other flash drives for under $20

just don't get kingston, they tend to have old stock that are slow. the corsair voyagers are good. $10 after rebate for 8gb and $20 after rebate for 16gb. 16gb comes with lanyard while 8gb doesn't.
would you be interested in 32gb? those will be coming down to $40 after rebate soon. i've seen 1 deal for $45 after rebate for a 32gb (there was also a $90 64gb deal).

I've had two kingston datatravelers, and while they might not be as speedy as other brands, they're durable as hell. My 8gb has been in my pocket every day for about two years with the cap off and it works fine. I had a 2gb before that for a year and a half capless in my poclet and no problems.

It's just a thumb drive. Buy the cheapest one in the size you need from a company you've heard of.

i have a 16gb kingston, and a 4gb, and havent found either to be slow. got em both from newegg, irrc, and paid....$18 for each. check deal sites for a good price if youre having trouble finding one under 20 bucks

Yeah, just go to Newegg, and order them by reviews, and get one that has 5 stars. If you want to deal with MIRs, then just select it under "Useful Links" and you should find some good deals. Flash memory is pretty cheap right now, and computer components don't get much cheaper than on Newegg, so I'd be pretty happy. I bought a 1GB drive about 5 years ago for $220. Imagine what kind of combinations of flash drives you could get for that price today.

+1

I have an 8GB Patriot Xporter XT and it doesn't seem very fast. Read speeds are decent, but write speeds seem slow... not that it was any slower than any other flash drive.

That was because of an issue with repeated self-promotion of that site.

I reallly need to upgrade my aging Sandisk 512MB Ti. It's great, but i'm going to need 16GB+. I'm debating between the Partriot Dash, Cruzer Micro, or OCZ Diesel. I need to attach to my keychain to it elminates a lot of em, and i really hate cover, so the OCZ is probably out. The Dash seems to be pretty lighting fast, but reviews say its really cheaply made, so i'm not sure how easy it will be to break. I want it to last as long as my Ti did.

If you have one nearby - Circuit City's shutdown sale could have what you want.

I got a free 8gb one from a Toshiba rep. Looks neat and has decent speed, but I wouldn't call it fast.

Just bought an OCZ Diesel for $16 AR from Newegg. Cap seems good so far, carrying it around on my keychain.

Slow as molasses if you're used to a fast flash drive like the Rally.

The OCZ Diesel is suppose to have read speeds up there with all the other OCZ, namely maxing out USB. Though the write speeds are half of the Rally2. Can you confirm this mrSHEik? I'm really leaning toward the Patriot Dash 16GB as many reports show it has max xfer of 32/19 read/write. But its looks flimsy as hell and the slider button will probably break in a month. The OCZ Diesel seems like my other choice, but i will prob lose the cap, most reports also show the same max xfer speeds.
