Where can I get a satellite phone?

??? last time I stumbled upon such a thing, the service was about a $1.00 a minute. My dad is interested and I'm wondering where I could get such a thing
 
They are prohibitively expensive, and I can't think one would be necessary unless you spend substantial time away from landlines and terrestrial cell phone service.

What is your reasoning for you/your dad wanting a satellite phone?

He owns property in austrailia and newzealand, and I assume there isn't very good cell coverage there..

Well, of course, it depends if the property is rural or urban. If he's on the fringes of GSM service, then there are cheaper methods to assure connectivity. I understand you may be worried about him in the case of an emergency or problem. How often does he go there and how long does he stay? It may be much much cheaper to rent a satellite phone on occasion, than to purchase a phone and plan. If you do purchase a phone and plan you are looking at a pretty significant outlay of money.
