Where can I get a cheap copy of XP?

Hey,

just like the title says, where can I get a copy of XP for cheap? Are there oem copis that will work on home-built computers?

Thanks

Yea, I would suggest getting an OEM from a major etailer like Newegg, Zipzoomfly or other major player. The prices should all be within a few dollars of each other store to store. If you find it significantly cheaper somewhere else, beware. There's probably some legal problems with it. The other cheap choice I could think of is maybe a student discount if you're going to college. Some universities have pretty steep discounts on MS software for their students.

I get atleast an e-mail a week offering XP Pro OEM for $29.99, I can forward on their websites if you wish.

Seriuously, go to Newegg or ZipZoomFly and pay what it costs for XP. Once in a blue moon thre are ~$60 MIRs on XP Home Upgrade, check the hot deals forum for them.

Doesn't the OEM copy only allow a one time installation? Then, certain modifications (hard drive swap, optical drive swap, probably not a RAM swap) would require another purchase of a license?

Am I confusing license limits? OEM vs. retail?

OEM x 3 can be cheaper than retail, though.

You may have to re-activate, but as long as you're on the original motherboard, it's still a valid license.

Find a friend that is in college...you can get XP really really cheap there. In my case, I can get it from my brother for $10.
