Where can I get a cheap but good heat sink / cooling fan for ANCIENT ASUS V770 GeForce2 Card

Any Ideas on how I can replace it. I removed the old one -- the fan was making LOTSA NOISE and I kept getting lock ups when my kids used the comptuer (the video card was hot enough to almost burn you - very uncomfortably hot). Where can I find a repalcement that will mount to the card?

if ure in the uk, then look for a product called thermaltake crystal orb at www.overclockers.co.uk or www.theoverclockingstore.com.

if ure in the US or else where then look for the same product at a computer retailer baced in ure country.

the crystal orbs are great coolers and reasonably quiet. also, if you dont mount the fan cover that comes with it, then it`ll cool slightly better and slightly less noisilely.

Okay, I ordered the Crystal Orb by Thermaltake for $11. Dang Shipping. $8 for 2nd day at 2cooktek (yea, I am always in a hurry). I hope this works -- I did not measure the spread of the push pins, but I guess I can use the thermal tape if the pins do not work :( . If it doesn't work, I just wasted $20. Probably should have bought a new video card, but this one has always been good for my kids disney games.

whoa! ASUS 7700 is not ancient... do you know that the vast majority of the computers out there are maxed out at GF2MX levels? what do you call the TNT2, then, antediluvian? :)

These being said, I'll probably need to replace the fan on one of my 7700 cards, because it has started to make weird noises when I turn the computer on, although it later on quites down... so thanks for bringing this up... tell us how'd it go with the replacement!

There are so many nVidia Version cards out there now with MX's and Ti's and I don't have a clue what they mean, but I assume they are faster than mine -- i have had it for what seems like "years" now :) I will let you kow how it goes. Mine was doing what yours is. On start uop it sounded like a jet engine in the box. After a while it stopped making so much noise, but wonder if that means it stopped after a while because the comptuer has started locking up when the kids use it. I hope it is a cooling issue only on the Video - no good reason otherwise I can think of for my Asus CUSL2-C motherboard and not even overlcocked P3 700 to lock up. I guess it could be bad RAM, but have no idea how to check that. This fan on the card was CLEARLY a problem if for no other reason you could not even hear the TV in the same room with it :)

http://8dimensional.com/ is always a good source of info in what the video cards are concerned.... the guy who made the site is an AT member, too.

I hate the fact that the bloody fan seems to be spitting its guts... maybe some ball bearings have gone bad...

I installed it and it fit the holes in the card perfectly. The Push Pins to attach it to the card were hard to engage to make it stay put but it is working fine and so far no lock ups on the computer (although I have not really used it much since I installed the Fan and put the card back in). Hopefull the kids will not have lock ups any more.

Oh, and the DEAFENING ROAR is gone from inside the case :)

wow, someone who thinks a thermaltake orb is quiet !?!?!?!? :)

dang, that old fan musta been a jet engine.

FYI, i picked up a vantec iceberg cooler set. Check it here. Excellent quality, good cooling (probably not as good as a crystal orb, but probably better than most stock coolers), and it's very very quiet.

This is the only video/chipset cooler I will use from now on.
