Have you seen the silent movies of the era? It's not like you could just make a video anywhere, much less in a battlefield.
 
there is a great documentary that is shown here fairly regularly called For King and Empire. It chronicles Canada's involvement in war including some awesome WWI stuff. It is combined with actually filming the show where the battles took place and includes all monuments, letters and eye witness accounts. The films and photos are amazing.
