I have been interested in building a comp...building it is know prob...I know how. I was interested in the amd64 4000+ and I was reading some peoples comments. It isn't a bad cpu but some one was talking about the 3500+ San Diego (2.0GHz, 1MB L2). Is this cpu locked or unlocked??? Also where could I find it...Newegg, Tigerdirect, Zipzoomfly...I haven't really looked for that specific of a core. Is it good. Any info will help, thanks!!!

All Athlon64s are locked as far as increasing the multiplier. For decreasing the multiplier, they aren't.

The San Diego 3500+ is not currently available. It will be released later than the top line chips and it will have half the cache cripple and will run at 2.2ghz not 2.0ghz. It is the next generation Clawhammer 3500+. Like the other four 3500+'s it will have 512mb L2 and run 2.2ghz. Like the Clawhammer it should be a good overclocker.

Just swallow hard and buy the 3700+.

no reason to spend more than you were planning, the SanDiego 3500+ (if it arives should be priced no higher than other 3500's and most likely have the highest potential maxes), the extra cache is NOT worth the extra cash ;) That is unless you need to have bragging rights.
