Now there are sites everywhere that list the cost of building a "value" machine and a "powerhouse" machine. What about operation costs and stuff like, maintenance, electricity, etc.

Maintenance is practically zip, unless you're abusing the damn thing.

As for electricity costs, you might check the web sites of UPS manufacturers. They frequently list the power usage of your typical configurations, so you could probably convert that to cost using your local electricity prices.

Well I'm really looking for an article that lists the costs in some kind of researched order. Maybe I'm looking in the right places but I can't find zip at the moment. My question come from an argument a friend and I had earlier.

So what is the real cost of placing and keeping a PC in operation? I guess that is my main question.

I think it is like everything else, the longer it works the cheaper it becomes per hour, day, week and so on. Adding new software or hardware over time has to be included when it happens also. Operator time is something else again.

Well home PC cost is low what about a business or company.

If you're using search engines, try using "TCO" or "Total Cost of Ownership" - that's the buzzword they use. But they will focus heavily on support costs like help desks, etc.

How much power does your PC/Monitor/Printer/Speakers use.

I know there is some sort of conversion chart. Watts Power etc.
