go to nvidia's website to get the reference driver, those are the best ones to run with nvidia stuff anyway as they are updated much more often then the OEM drivers.

NVIDIA doesn't provide an individual F6 driver download, it is part of the 'all-in-one' driver package for each NForce chipset. I have packaged it just for you:

http://s89934018.onlinehome.us/DRIVER/MCP73.zip

Unzip, open the correct OS folder, and copy all files to the floppy or use to create a custom install CD with integrated drivers.

F6 Floppy Install Guide

This driver is only required if in BIOS the SATA controller is set to RAID or AHCI mode (a.k.a. SATA mode). If set to IDE or legacy mode, this driver is not required nor will it work. Just use an XP install CD patched to at least SP2, preferrably SP3 now that it can be downloaded from Microsoft.

Thanks. I think the driver would be necessary since on the Acer Aspire 1640, there i no way to set the thing into IDE mode. All it got is either SATA or SATA raid mode. I had a xp disk that got sp2 and i got blue screen fo death just after window finish loading the necessary file for installation.

Sorry. I mistook your post to mean that you had installed it but needed the proper instead of the generic ms drivers for it.

Basically, I put in the XPsp 2 cd during the bootup and I got into the all too familiar Window xp setup screen. Everything is working fine while Window xp is loading the necessary driver for the installation. However, everytime, right before I can get to the part where I can actually do the installation. I got the blue screen of death and it is telling me to reboot the pc. I doubt anythign is wrong with the pc since we just bought it a few weeks ago and vista is working.

That does sound like a driver issue in the xp install PE environment (a special version of xp put on the disk to boot into and ask you questions/load drivers to install XP)... but to be honest the only time I have seen this is with bad hardware, so I'm stumped without looking at the computer myself...

Does the crash happen before or after the point where you select third-party controller drivers? "Right before you do the installation" is not very descriptive.

Some OEM systems have a distinct BIOS for XP and Vista. It would follow then that there may be some OEM systems with a BIOS designed for Vista only. The current BIOS may simply not work with XP in native SATA mode.

Here is the latest [and only] BIOS I could find for Aspire M1640 on Acer's dysfunctional website: DOS and WINFLASH versions
