Why don't you try your local Mom and Pop computer joint or build it yourself. PC's are easy to build.

Ditto. Or pick up Computer Shopper magazine. Tons of ads there. Better to deal with the local screwdriver shop because support is nearby.

KeNDoGG -- Fathom5 just beat me to the post.

Your profile says you're in Orange County. Here, in So. California, we get some of the best computer prices in the country. Buy from a local shop you trust, or save even more by buying the same things from the same people at your local swap meet. You'll pay sales tax, but you won't pay any shipping, and if something breaks, you just throw it in your car and get it fixed without return hassles. :)

I live in the San Fernando Valley, and I wouldn't consider buying computer stuff anywhere but locally.

There's a swap at CSUN, next weekend. Think I'll go out and kick a little byte. ;)

Yeah, mom and pop stores are the best choice for that kind of thing. Ask around the employees, and see if any are avid Quake players. The main system tech (and the guy that is in charge of system configuration) where I work (Toledo, OH, so probably too far for you) playes q3a all the time, and he knows whats best for a gaming system, and can pretty much configure a system based on your needs. We've gotten much more praise for our hand built systems from customers since we switched from pre-built systems from our wholesalers (like onvia would have).

well i would build the computer if it was for myself but this is for my boss's business... The computer that i am working on now is a p3 866, 128mb, ati pro rage 8mb, 48x which he purchased at 1100+ tax. Honestly i think he got ripped off ..

So what im looking for is a reputable place online or a mom and pop shop here in OC...

Why can't you offer to build it for him? Put on paper what you can do for him, tell him you won't charge him anymore than your normal labor charges (EG you get a day to build a computer, but get paid for your normal work), & see what he has to say.

On the other hand.......

If you build one for a "BOSS", you will NEVER EVER NEVER be free of whatever level of support the "BOSS" expects you to give him. Some of us have learned this lesson. DO NOT build machines for Bosses, giirlfriends, mothers, brothers, sisters, (in other words, people that you can't tell to hush up and go away).
