Where can I find milk crates for free or really cheap?

I'm looking for about 9-12 milk crates to build a few speaker stands but I have no idea where to find them. I doubt if grocery stores will just give them away, so I'm kinda at a loss as to where to find them.

Once again, DIY is your best bet...between a sheet of MDF, some PVC piping and some threaded rod, I built some very solid (sand and shot filled) stands a few years back. The milk crates will not isolate the speakers at all (I know you're not shooting for the best here, but still) and will conduct vibrations galore. If you're looking for easy and cheap, buy some cinder blocks.

nope no store will give them away. they really do nto own them. the milk company does.

but if you really want something like it go to target or such. but EvilYoda had the best idea.

wow, I did'nt realize they were illegal to own.

At any rate I solved 2 problems at once, I needed some storage containers so I bought enough to use as cheap temporary speaker stands. Once I get some free time to work on it I'll start building a nice set of DIY stands.
