I want a lot of information before I install them. Any websites with a detailed installation guide/description of them? How do I know which on to download if I have this mobo: http://www.gateway.com/support/techdocs/references/motherboard/0aawv/251314626.shtml . I can't tell whick of the drivers to download at the Via page. Sorry if I sound like an idiot, but mobo's aren't my strongest area of knowledge when it comes to computers. Could you guys tell me your experiences with installing them? Thanks!

How do I know which to download? Gateway says I have:

VIA KT133 chip set consisting of:
VT8365 North Bridge
VT82C686B South Bridge

How can I make sure that this is the actual chipset that I have?

Just grab whatever the latest version is (4.32 I think?), the installation program will handle it from there.

FUNK! The drivers were installing, and it made it too 100%, then it froze! I couldn't do anything.....so I had to do a hard reboot. Everything seems ok, should I try installing them again?

<<How do I know which to download?>>

Did you even read that FAQ? It doesnt matter which chipset you have, the 4-in-1s are made to support ALL VIA chipsets.

SHit, I ran 3dMark2001, and the program crashed and I got a BSOD! Should I try installing them again? Should I use my WinME restore thing and restore my computer to what it originally was, then reinstall the drivers?

Uh... just a thought, Gateway might have the 4-in-1s preinstalled.

Well, many people on teh board reccomended that I install them because my 3DMark2001 score was REALLY low on my 64mb Radeon VE. I tried reinstalling it again, but it froze again. Do you think I could have damaged my system?

Oops, I was in video driver mode... Try choosing the uninstall option for any components when you run the VIA setup, rebooting and then installing them.

changing mobo drivers on an OEM like gateway seems like you're asking for trouble... those things are unstable as hell to begin with (cuz of all the crap software they have) and often use slightly modified drivers, bioses, etc. so anything you do to it may or may not increase performance but it will decrease stability...

since you have a restore disk, i'd wipe everything out, do a clean install of ME and h/w drivers, then the VIA drivers, and then see how things go...

i did a clean install of ME on my box and it's been pretty stable despite multiple components and tons of software...

Actually, the fool proof way to install the 4 in 1's is to boot into safe mode first. Sucks if you have a USB mouse though.
