I love being creative, and getting back at my school for asigning me stupid (and we're talking asinine) asignments.

Recently, we were asigned a wonderfully pointless task:
Find a poem of 28 lines or more, memorize it, and recite it.

I want to memorize a really depressing poem. Does anyone know of any specific poems? Please don't just say something by 'Poe'. We all know he was depressed and disturbed, but I'm looking for something more overtly depressing.

As much as I'd like to do that, one of the requirements from my teacher was the poet has to be "published". And by published, the teacher means 'semi-well-known'. :(

Could I do a quick look at poetry.com and find your poems? If that's the case, I might be able to use one of 'em.

Look for some Dickinson...she was pretty insane...
However poetry is not my strong point so I'm not of much help.

Go for Rainer Rilke. The man stranded himself in a dank castle during the winter to gain inspiration. First, you'll have to understand how his work is depressing...seriously, one of the hardest poets to interpret I've ever encountered. Maybe he's just mad his mom put him in dresses when he was little...;)
