Where can I find cheap RAM for mom and dad?

I was at my parents' house this weekend. Their 333mhz celeron HP with 64MB RAM is suck! Their system freezes for 2 minutes everytime you try to print, or open certain applications. I downloaded MemTurbo just to monitor RAM use, and their free RAM is consistantly below 10MB. I'd like to add 128MB (they have 2 slots availble, so I can keep one of the 32MB - gotta hate HP). I don't need anything special - just looking for something cheap for them. I don't think a 333mhz HP will benefit much from top-quality RAM. Just looking for something stable and compatible. Any suggestions??

Also, for some God-awful reason, Dad is running McAfee with another anti-virus program he downloaded. He hates when I tell him what to do with his computer, but should I warn him against running both simultaneously?

Thanks, Rob

accessmicro.com seems to have good prices
As for generic, well, I dont use it but some of my friends like it cause it works fine and is cheap. Guess it depends if you wanna overclock or not....

No overclocking. This is Mom and Dad's computer which lags like a 400-lb man in a marathon. I'm thinking any upgrade is better than nothing. And I don't plan on helping them out unless I can get it for real cheap. Is generic really a no-no? Does HP equip their computers with good RAM to begin with?

i think generic would be fine... i don't personally use it, but seeing how the fsb is going to be at 66, i don't think you would have any problems.

Mushkin has their budget ram for $79 and free shipping this weekend. It's for either PC100 or PC133 stick of 128 MB. I am not sure what kind of ram you have in there now. You can probably find it cheaper since ram prices are falling through the floor but you get a lifetime warrenty on the ram and alot of people, including me, would always recommend mushkin.

Generic pc100 is more than enough for an old 333 celeron running at 66mhz.

Get the cheapest you can find,cas3 pc100 will run fine at cas2 66mhz.

Best Buy is selling 32MB PC100 sticks for $9.99. $39 with an instant $15 rebate plus a $15 mail-in rebate. Limit of two sticks per customer.

The words that are forbidden are highlighted for you.

You sure it's a ram problem? I know HP/compaq/dell have a LARGELY overbloated windows install. I just redid my friend's 700 Mhz Dell laptop because he said it was slow. I did a clean winME install and he was very happy with it. He had at least 10 start up items taking up a lot of resources. At any rate I would suggest e b a y. I just bought a Celeron 333 for $15 =)

btw, any reason why I can't use e b a y in a post?

try the forsale trade forum, if i was home i'd gut my spare system in the garage of its two 32mb dimms, and try to sell em to you

Hey, thats true...I think some name brand stuff is kinda picky what you put in it.......Or, just get generic and if it doesnt work sell it to one of your unwitting friends as some super duper CAS 2 PC 133...🙂
