where can I download the complete aol 8.0 software to burn to a cd?

I know what you're thinking, and here's the explanation. My friend just bought a custom computer from CompUSA yesterday. Along with the deal was 3 free months of AOL service. He decided to go with this, and would give him time to figure out which service to go with for good. Plus, it's free. But when he got home, he had forgot to get an AOL disc from the store, and it's not preinstalled on his system.

We don't know right of hand where to get an aol cd, and I figure I can burn the program to a cd and run it to his house right quick. Going back to CompUSA isn't an option, it's like 30 minutes away.

I went to AOL's site, but they want you to sign up and enter credit card info and everything, so that's out of the option.

Is the complete AOL version different fromt the one you can download from the AOL mainpage (FTP Version Here) ? I thought those free trials were just activated with a code?

And if you really need a disc, I've seen them at the post office among many other places.

Just wait, the AOL supercomputers have seen this post, and you'll be dodging cds for the rest of the month.

That's the little 300KB file that downloads the complete 42MB file for the program. I'm looking for the 42MB file.

won't the 42MB file be in your temp folder somewhere?

If you can't really find it (I really don't know how you've been avoiding it), you can always call them up and they'll be happy to mail you a copy, or two, or three...

Well, I assume your friend is computer literate enough he won't be bothering with the built in AOL browser and such - and if that is the case any version of AOL will do fine just to connect. You can download the full 7.0 installer here:

ftp://ftp.newaol.com/clients/aol70/setupaol70.exe

Once he is connected, just fire up Internet Explorer and use it like any other ISP.

The CompUSA by me has them plus they give you 50 free CDRs for signing up. You can cancel whenever you want. They said they had one person cancel before leaving the store 😛 I don't know if all CompUSAs do this though.

FACT of the day:

Did you know AOL writes those pesky discs off during tax time. I believe they are written off in the same category as factories.
