It's Linux right.... Linus Torval wanted it to be free. Shouldn't this be a product we can download from the net?

Nope, it's 5*650M :)

CD 1 - Binaries 1
CD 2 - Binaries 2
CD 3 - Powertools
CD 4 - Documentation
CD 5 - Source

and yes, all five ISOs are downloadable from various sites on the Net.

I have tried to download those on a T1 connection on school and was still unable to get them all. I guess we have to wait a few days. If I can get hold of those iso's, I will put them on some ftp server at school and let you guys know..

Well, when you consider all the stuff on those 2 cd's, yep.

2 cd's of redhat (or any linux for that matter) is probably enough software to run the equivilent of Win2000 pro, server, and advanced server (in capability, not stability.. ;) this is much more stable) Plus there's quite a few space eating window managers...

And then there are some things that you probably would have to buy much extra software to do.

I'm sure there's a few exceptions, but you get the point.

I downloaded both iso from red hat's ftp a few days ago ... It was preety fast. I got a maintained speed of 150-200 k for both isos.

Just a comment.

Try euro mirror sites when they are sleeping, or at least later in the evening for them. Using US mirrors when everyone in the US is trying to download is just a waste of time.

Does 7.0 have out-of-the-box support for ATA/66? I've been wanting to get a Linux distrobution going on this computer for six months, but not enough to go playing with my hard drives, especially since it took me a week to get this thing running smoothly the last time I went inside there...

cpebbles,

Don't know about RH 7.0 but the current Mandrake has support for ATA/66 out of the box.

Cool, I'm going to have to try and download it then. I have been putting it off for the past 2 weeks since it came out (ang considering the fact that my ethernet card does not work under Linux, interestingly though it has rivers for it, but seems to be an early version of the series so its a no go). The real funny thing is that Sun Solaris 2.6 recognises my ethernet card, but Linux does not, too bad it can't use my Asus V6800 Delux GeForce card for anything but standard 16bit color at 800x600 otherwise I would be running Solaris.

BP6. I was thinking of moving to a KT7-RAID and going with a Thunderbird, but I might just hold out for Abit's dual P3 thingy.

BTW, thanks, Doh & zzzz!

I had bp6 and mandrake 7.1 worked with the HPT 366. The abits gentus 3a is also based on RH6.2 and has some enhancements and support for abit boards. I tried to install RH 7 on KT7-raid(HPT370) and it didn't recognise the HPT controller.
