Since I hear 2000b is a major memory hog, where could i get a less bloated version of icq?

Personally I think ICQ started getting screwy after 98a, but thats just my opinion.

Are you nuts? 99b is the perfect version, much better than 98a! 99b has Activelist compatibility plus the shortcut keys!! I wouldn't use ICQ without those.. WTF, do you actually like to double click every time you have a message and every time you send a message , etc etc? blech.

About the only thing I'll be using it for is sending messages and transferring files, so I don't need to have too many features. Yes, I know AIM would suffice also for just these things, but there are certain people out there who only use icq and there is a certain file I've been trying to get for the about half a month now, and I may have found someone who has it, but I think I'll need icq to get it.

to save clogging up your mail, I managed to find a site that still has 99b for download. So check here

RSI - yep I know what you mean, but for what I used ICQ for, well, they altered certain features.

An interesting question has come up though, and being the curious person that I am, I would like to have have this answered: What version of icq does everyone think is best and why. Take into account how many of the features of each version you actually use, how much of a system's resource it uses, ect.

I prefered 98 because I could easily access the IP, trace and for the most part figure out if my new 'contact' was legit or some ass pissing in the wind ( I had a couple of friends who liked collecting ICQ numbers and trying to 'catch me out' )
It was a quick download and the database would fit on a floppy so if I was away I could just download 98, pop in the database and I was away laughing.
Sure the later ones have all the bells and whistles but, *shrug*, 98a is still my favourite.
