I got some old gear like servers and random parts that I simply dont have the room to keep anymore. I dont want to throw it away so I was wondering if anyone knew of any programs that collect and reuse this stuff... Im guessing schools could use it, but I havent found any good leads.

anyone know of any places that might want this stuff?

I don't know - I recently took all of my old stuff over to Goodwill for their e-waste 'recycling'. Some was nonoperational, the the remainder was bits and pieces of machines which only a compulsive hoarder of computer components would ever want (which might explain how they arrived in my possession in the first place ... )

Edit: One of the recycling items was a 21" CRT monitor

This.

You could also try advertising it in the AnandTech freebies thread, although if it's large stuff it may not be worth what it would cost to ship. Some older parts like SDRAM (especially higher capacity sticks, 256MB and 512MB) are still in relatively high demand, so you could probably list these on eBay and make a little cash of them. Most of those old parts are worth next to nothing, though, but you'd be surprised, people can still find uses for them.

How old's the stuff? I work with a couple of non-profits that depending on how recent it is can either put it to use, or recycle it.

I put mineon Craigslist for $20 bucks, I sold a "Box of computer junk" for pick up only. We met at the library and that was it... It had a lot of misc. components that all worked, but like any other person on this forum, I had no use for but couldn't throw it out. things like my old vid cards, lots of sticks of RAM, HDs, CD-ROM, DVDs, that sort.

I had some monitors that I offered the guy, but he didn't want them, then I tried to go to Goodwill and they wouldn't take them, only the LCDs now apparently. I ended up having to pay someone $38 bucks to take it.

I have:
Dell Poweredge 1800 Tower (2x xeon, 4GB RAM)
2x 1U black box servers - i think they have one proc and 2GB RAM
A couple Antec PC cases

none of the servers have HDs (had to yank them by request)
