Where can I d/l all Vista 64 updates to put on an external HDD?

I'll be installing Vista on a new PC and I don't want to connect to the internet with a really old Vista waiting for new updates to d/l, with my luck I'll be hit with a virus in 2 seconds.

So, I need to d/l everything now and put them on an external HDD and update windows off-life after installing... Can I do that? Are updates all cumulative or are there different types? What do I need to do? I've never done this before. Thanks for any help. 🙂

How would you get hit with a virus on a stock vista machine that is downloading updates through AU? Unless you do something dumb like dowload and run a file with a virus while you are updating. And if that's the case, what's stopping you from getting infected after you bring the box up to date?

This isn't Windows 98 anymore. Vista has a firewall enabled by default. It's got IE running at low integrity level by default. It's got UAC to keep you running as a regular user most of the time. Just plug the thing in and let it update itself. You will be fine.

I don't know, it's just that all the PC building guides suggest downloading all the updates and updating Vista right after installing before going online... If it's not a big deal I guess I'll just let it update automatically.
