My parents (Indians) usually eat food with something called 'hari mirch' (not related to Hari Krishna!) They're slim green peppers that are extra hot!!! For me, one bite requires 3 tall glasses of water to put the fire out! They just eat them peppers raw! Anyone here know what these are called in English...are they habaneros? I've also seen Tobasco Habanero sauce at the supermarket.

i agree with mOoGotMilk...korean food is one of the hottest i've ever had...one of my korean friends was explaining to me the whole hot/spicy thing with koreans...i forgot all the granular details, but she basically has to have her food hot/spicy all the time...even if it means settling for lame tobasco sauce if the restaurant doesn't have anything else...we'll be eating at a chinese restaurant and she'll ask for hot sauce and she just drowns her food in it..DANG!...

in regards to hot sauces, i was once in a hot sauce store and saw this really REALLY small bottle inside a glass case with a plaque claiming to be the hottest in the world, forgot what it was called, but i was asking how come it's not on the shelves like the rest of the sauces, owner said that it used to be, but then a customer dropped a bottle and they had to close the store..*SHEESH*...then this dude starts explaining to me how it kills bacteria...LOL..dang!...i wanted to buy one, but they were out, they said it sells really quick and they only get like 20 a month...

My mom went HERE last weekend, and brought back a few sauces. She also brought back their little magazine which lists and explains all the sauces. There must be 500 sauces in that magazine, and I only saw 2 that are 10+++ on the spicy scale. (goes from 1 to 10, then 10+ to 10+++) They're "Da Bomb Final Answer" and "Blair's 3 AM reserve" (this one says it has over 2million scoville units, whatever that means :))

That page also has the following warning:

<< Warning: these are not sauces!
They are extremely hot pepper extracts that are to be used only as an ingredient. They are not to be consumed directly. Signed waivers are required for purchase of Daves Reserve, Pure Cap, 2 AM reserve, 3 AM reserve and Da Bomb Final Answer. Habanero 750 and Mad Dog revenge have a waiver on the seal. You must be 19 years of age or older to buy these. Please read all warnings carefully.
>>

Bottom line is these aren't meant to dip your chicken wigns in. The clerk at the place said they could kill people.

edit-- I thought this one was funny:

"Pure Cap" is pure capsaicin extract with a little extender added so it doesn't self combust. :D

Living in New Mexico, I've seen alot of hot sauces.

Most people can't handle more than a drop of the
Endorphin Rush hotsauce on this page :)

I've never tried it, I just always watch the idiots who want it.

Dave's Insanity Sauce is pretty hot (first time I used it I put 1 teaspoon into some chilli - big mistake) but Dave also makes other hot sauces.
Check out Dave's Private Reserve. It's supposed to be 3 times as hot as regular insanity sauce!

Try the Dave's Insanity Sauce. But beware it could mess you up... one bud had too much of it... and ended going to the hospital with bleeding in his stomach.

Though over all it is not bad stuff... now where is my prevacid again?

We ate Dave's Insanity all through College when I was at UofArizona. It came packaged in a little wooden coffin. Goddamn that stuff was hot. I remember we went to a 4th of July party and made some Chili with a bottle of that stuff in it. Little kids were crying and sh1t, it was sooooo hot!

(Damn, Knoxville, you made me laugh outloud again)

Just go to any good nursery and buy your own plants. I used to grow them in my back yard. It was hell trying to keep the bugs off them, both flying and crawling. Bugs LOVED those things. The come out like little yellow chili's, but almost pink in color. The longer you keep the plant going, the bigger they get.
My friends son (in the Marines) was getting married, and I took a handful to the wedding. Lots of big tough Marines. I put a hundred dollar bill on the table and said anyone who can sit there and eat one, and remain seated for 5 min gets the money. The Jabenero works slowwwwwly. My money was safe. And what they didn't know is that drinking a liquid (LIKE BEER) makes it tens times worse. I believe there is an African variety also.
I used to get a magazine that was called "Chili" (if I remember right)
Dunno if its still around. Amazing how popular that stuff is.
Just like anything else, the body gets used to it, after a year, not too much pain.

Go to New Orleans, LA. You will find dozens of shops in that city which sell nothing but hot sauces. Good luck finding anything better than flavored vinegar if you're looking for hot sauces at a local supermarket. Try some speciality stores online.

BTW: The hottest sauce available on the market is one called "Gold Cap". That stuff is *hot*.

I'm Indian too, and although the hot sauces you find at the supermarket are pretty lame, some of the Habenero one's that are made down South are 10x hotter than anything from India.

They're not habaneros,THIS is.

I've got some Mad Dog's Inferno, it's not THE hottest, but it won't let you forget about it for 20 minutes. It has a smoky flavor that kicks a$$ with BBQ and chili,it doesn't take much and it's less than 6$.

There is a family run place in town (des moines, ia) called Big Daddy's which has some HOT sauce. It has even been nationally recognized a few times. I have been there a few times but unfortunately they won't let me have any sauce hotter than "The Last Supper" since I am under 18. To get anything hotter you must sign a parental consent form and get your doctor and lawyers permission.

Not only that, but they also have a challenge where, if you can eat their WHOLE sandwhich w/ their hottest sauce in like 10 minutes w/o any water, then you get like $5000. But if you don't do it, then you have to donate money to a charity.

Several people have had to go to the hospital because of it too. I can't wait to try it. :)
