gravel pit/quarry.... they sift sand off the rocks that is perfect for sand boxes.
Local quarry or gravel yard. Some hardware stores. Lots of places.
Note that sand comes in different grades. Since your kid will be playing in it, make sure you get decent stuff.

Home depot has bags and bags of "Play sand" in 50 lb bags.

Don't forget to pick up a nice BB gun for shooting neighborhood cats when they stop by to shit in your son's new play area. Otherwise, get used to explaining to your son why some of the darker sand stinks.
