I see you guys discussing this processor a lot, and I am thinking about buying one. I looked around, did not seem to find any stores selling this. help?

Try using this: Instocklocator. I ordered one from Microcenter as they said it was in stock then cancelled a week later when it didn't ship, never shop there again:disgust:

I got one on line at Fry's, alas they are sold out now. keep an eye on the Hot Deals forum that's where I got the Fry's info, good luck.

Why would you switch from a quad to a dual core cpu due to supply issues? Wouldn't it make more sense to drop down to a Q6600?

yea, i understand where you are getting at, but the thing is, i hate older product, i have a thing for the newest generation of components, Q6600 is about 1 year old i believe, so i wanted something new that has 1333 fsb :D plus I am a gamer, I don't think the games hitting the market will get benefited by quad core much more than duo core, am i right?

there are a lot of benefits to getting an e8400 over a Q6600. The Q6600 has a slower fsb, it runs much hotter, it is about 5 % slower clock/clock, it doesn't run sse4.1 and it's much harder to overclock well. Especially for a gamer, I agree with going 45nm, even if that means you do have to settle for a dualie.

@OP, I would recommend keeping your eyes peeled. Availability will be limited for the next month or two on 45nm quads, but they are trickling in here and there.

Then why consider a Q9450 in the first place? You obviously dont need a quad. Stick to a E8400.

They also have the E8400 OEM for $180.00.

It would quite hard to justify a the 9450 at double the cost of the 8400 ($200 more)

Well if your system (without CPU) is worth $1000 in components then you are really asking yourself "do I want to a computer worth $1380 that is potentially twice as fast at multi-threaded apps or multi-tasking single-threaded apps as a computer worth $1180?"

This is just an example, clearly, but my point is just that comparing just the CPU prices in for price/performance reasons is not really the cost comparison that one should be doing.

This is also where some folks get lost in their arguments against buying the extreme CPU's...if you built a $6k rig then the incremental cost of that $1k processor (relative to the GHz you get from it) versus buying a $300 processor is pretty much a moot point.
