Where can I buy cheep bicycle gear?

Cheap as in used? craigslist is pretty good if you live in/near one of the covered cities.

Otherwise a search using Froogle and BestWebBuys is not bad.

Shimano is quite effective at price-fixing, by regulating the number of their dealers. Supergo is probably as good as you'll do at an actual store, but I recommend eBay, where you can get prices below MSRP. That's where I got my Ultegra pedals. I got the Dura-Ace pedals I use on my main bike at Total Cycling, but the European stores are not as great a deal now that the dollar is so weak.

EDIT: This guy has them for $83.50 BIN, with actual shipping charged - that's about as cheap as you'll find them. The online retailers get $145.

I had Look style pedals on my road bike for a while but I hated them. I got the SPD's instead. Much better design IMO.

The current SPD-SLs combine the best attributes of both IMO. Lance A had, for many years, insisted on using an ancient pair of Look-designed Dura-Ace pedals, until Shimano developed the SPD-SLs. They combine the large platform of Looks with a much lighter design and far more durable, safer-to-walk-on cleats.
