Are you trying to break the Chicago Cubs curse?
No, I normally cook hogs, but they take so long, 12 or more hours, whereas a goat take only 5 hours.
Doesn't everyone cook a whole hog or goat or something for the 4th?
Hamburgers are kind of wimpy when you are used to a large game animal.
LMAO....
Dunno, I don't think we're too into the whole-animal-roasting scene here in the west.......
Well, if you have a lot of people over, it is the best way to feed them all.
A whole goat can feed a bunch of people, and most of them have never seen such a thing.
When it takes two people to lift it off the grill, with one on its front legs and another carrying its back legs, and it is carried to the serving table, folks feel like they are eating like a medieval king.
The sight of a large whole animal is simply amazing, and you can't help but think, "Wow. I want to eat some of that!"
People love it for the spectacle, but it is grounded in 2 reasonable things:
1. It really does taste delicious.
2. It is about the most economical way to feed a lot of folks.
You see you are getting a much more expensive piece of meat that a hamburger or hot dog, but since you have purchased a whole animal, the price per pound is not any more expensive than your mundane hot dogs and hamburgers.
