Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for something trendy, I have no idea. For something functional, hit up target and wal-mart. Check for Jansport or other big brands.

my roommate has a nice swiss army one. I think they're $50 from amazon.

I myself, use a $30 Eddie Bauer bag that has been through pretty much everything and still works great!

I own a East Sport I got from Walmart for $15. Still going strong after 3 years.

I had a nice, simple jansport backpack, but then I spilled chlorine on it (left it in my trunk when I was getting pool stuff), so while the bag is fine, it just stinks of chlorine (even after washing multiple times)

So, now I have this ugly, bright red jansport backpack with like 4 compartments, and all i wanted was another simple backpack. If I had to buy another one, I'd get this.

Edit: My next bag will probably be a messenger style bag, because I never wear both straps anyways. Plus, most of the sling-style bags I've seen are too small for all the books I usually carry.

REI or Costco, because of the warranty. We have some REI backpacks, and when one had a seam split, I took it back and they replaced it, no questions asked.

Just go to Olympia Sports and get a standard Eastpak for like ~$30. You need to cut them with hedge clippers for them to rip (at least in my experience).

I bought an Outdoor at Big5 to carry gear while bike riding.

Jansport was too tight a fit on my large body.
