Are these adapters case specific or generic?

I just want to use a few empty 5.25 slots for extra HDDs.

Most good computer retailers should sell them.

The parts are generally universal, unless you have a case with a bizzare rail system (ie. some quick release systems).

If your up-to the task, make your own. Two HDDs can fit in one 5.25 bay with .200"
clearance at all vertical surfaces. Just drill holes accuratly in four metal brackets and
install a low flow fan in the side of the bay aimmed at the HDDs. I did this two weeks ago.
It was not that hard to do. The drives are grommet mounted.

people run when I get out any power tools.

I have the fans installed and gromments ready to go. For me it is a lot easier to spend $15 for 4 sets of brackets than to go to HD, measure, find the right bit, get out the drill, etc. For me it is like changing oil; I can do it, but for $17.95 why go through the hassle.

Thanks for the info however.

Brock, Did you read all the posts in this thread? Side ways would be too tight for most
cabling requiored. They need active cooling. Above the two i installed in one 5.25 bay is
a Sunbeam rheobus, it's short and generates it's own heat load. In the side of the bay is a 70mmx15mm AMD HS fan with a defletor to direct air into the bay. Lots of work doing that one. As stated in my first post, there is only .200" clearance for all hoizontil surfaces.

I read, I saw your post where you stated there wasnt much clearance why i didn't want to try building. Just woundering if there was a pre made kit or bracket. If its to close there are a couple other places in the case I might be able to fit a hdd but afraid they would mess with the air flow seeing how it is a small case.

evercase makes a two-drive bracket that can be mounted in most cases - they sell them as accys for their 42x2 series of cases and they also sell rubber isolation grommets for the drives. But you are going to find it difficult to find any extra space in an X-Qpack. But if you need extra storage and don't mind how fast it is, consider notebook drives. You could stick one or two of them just about anywhere with a couple of pieces of industrial mounting tape... geeks.com and others sell adapter kits to use notebook drives with standard controllers and power connectors.
