Where are you in relation to where you thought you would be 10 years ago?

My job path certainly hadsn't been what I thought it would be - not even close. I also thought I would be making more money - but I hadn't planned on the last company going out of business either. I will say that I am significantly handier than I thought I would be - building a home theater myself from scratch would not have even entered the realm of possibilities then. The marriage and house boxes did get checked. Fortunately I dropped 46lbs so also I weigh the same

All in all I am in a much better place. 10 years ago I was spending 13 hours of my life either at work or getting to and from work and dealing with tons of stress from a DEA contract I was working on. Now I work 6 miles from where I live and watch traffic reports and all the issues with the various DC metro area public transit options with amusement. 10 years ago I didn't see anyway off that miserable treadmill of commuting and government contracting.

10 years ago, I was also 14.

When I was 14 I wasn't thinking about my future in the least...I was goofing off with my friends and skateboarding all day, every day. I long for those days.

I'm about where I thought I'd be. I aimed for $50k a year for some reason and was wondering how I'd get it.

While I'm over $50k a year, I should have aimed a lot higher, LOL

Ten years ago, I would have thought I'd be working in engineering at this time, after having studied engineering physics for 5 years. That never happened, because I dropped out after 1.5 years LOL. I learned a lot, even though I failed most exams...
For a few years now, I've been studying to become a system administrator or similar. Going to look for work this summer..

Hell's bells I thought I would be dead in ten years at 24. Compared to that, I'm fabulous.

I was 16. I had no idea where I would be at 26. I have no idea where I'm going now that I'm at 26.

10 years ago I was 20 and had difficulty thinking about where I'd be in two years let alone 10 years. I had vague notions about being some sort of biologist, researching and teaching. I'm currently finishing a PhD in physical anthropology, so not too far off from where I thought I'd be.

Ten years ago I was just beginning to lurk forums hardcore, but had not yet gained the courage to post.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that at the time I wanted to either make computer games, be a fiction writer, or comic writer.

10 years ago I was 21, had dropped out of college and gotten a job at a help desk.

Ehh, I suppose I'm doing better than I thought I would be doing, but thats' just because I'm pessimistic.

Ten years ago I was busy quaking CRDM and CTF on stanford.edu and later on trolling noobs in counter-strike straight out of high school. Never really thought hard of a life direction back then.

I pursued studies initially in CS, then changed to a sociologist, gained knowledge of the problems that continues to plague our world.

I thought I was going to work in IT after college for life, since I could build systems and understood all the terminology. Did that around 5 years ago, and realized IT wasn't my place for making money, too much stress and boredom involved.

I moved out of my home state, something I did not foresee.

Then not too long ago I pursued divisions in biology, microbiology, and criminal forensics. Biology was my most hated class in high school, but it seems to have changed around when I got older.

So, definitely not where I thought I'd be ten years ago.

I was 15 10 years ago and was not looking that far in the future. Here's hoping I'll make it to my goals in the next ten years! :cheers;

10 years ago I was just starting college and looking to be a programmer, maybe working on video games. Quickly realized I hated programming but finished my CS degree. Got in to IT and hoped to be making 100k by the time I was 30. Well I broke that last year with bonuses at age 28, so I guess i'm doing ok. Though I might not make as much this year :-/

10 years ago I was 33 years old, and it was some of the worst times of my life. Lost my job in July 1999, found a job in early-2000 that barely paid the bills. Found a full time job in August of 2000, but it was 1.5 hours drive from my wife and kids. My wife and I split up in October 2000, went through a nasty divorce that lasted almost 3 years.

Just about anything today is a lifetime better then what I was going through in 2001.

2011, life is good except for problems with teenage kids, child support 3 years from being finished, my new wife and I live well within our limits, go fishing when I want, camping,,,, life is mostly good except for the occasional drama.

10 years ago I was gainfully employed doing something I was very good at and I enjoyed doing and I would have thought that that was going to continue. Now, I'm retired. I really don't need the money, but I'd do sometimes remissness. Getting a job at my previous career (die maker) would just about be impossible unless I moved to China.

10 years ago I was planning on being a computer programmer. I'm an electrical engineer instead, but everything else seems on track. Relationships, savings, car, etc.
