Has anybody found where any native drivers are kept on the Windows XP cdrom? I'm trying to install an Epson printer (networked) and their website says their drivers are included on the XP cdrom and we should install them from there. It would have been real nice if Epson told us they're located because I couldn't find them anywhere :frown:. I hope they don't have to be extracted from a cab file. :disgust:

most of them are located in driver.cab I think. It is basically just a renamed zip file.

edit: that's in the i386 folder

Not if the printer isn't installed directly to the machine (LPT port, usb, etc.) hence "printer (networked)" in my original post. To elaborate, the printer is attached to a DHCP router, so Windows doesn't know it needs to install a printer driver to communicate with the "new hardware". The printer software must be installed manually, then configured in a print client to tell the OS where the printer is located.

I thought so. This is why Epson (as well as a whole lot of other manunfactures) needs to quickly get XP drivers available to the public. I'll just have to hope Win2K drivers will work.

when you go to Control Panel, then Printers and Faxes, then add new printer, one of the very first choices you will get is whether or not your printer is networked. Tell XP YES! Then when it is looking for software, make it show you all drivers and pick yours from the list????

That didn't work?

Aw, c'mon now, if the drivers are included with XP, this is the way to get'em installed.

I thought the install wizard should do this too, but I don't see it give me the option to "show all drivers for this device." After telling it is a network printer, it gives me three options; browse for printer, connect to a printer (by manually typing printer name in path: //server/printer), or connect to a printer on internet or home network (path: //server/printer/myprinter/.printer).

When I select "browse," it just shows a tree of my network computers... no printer. Possibly because it's connected to a router, not a pc. I don't know how to use the other selections, but they don't give me a list anyway.

Besides, I got the printer working by downloading and installing win2k drivers from Epson's website and telling the print client where the printer is.
