I've been looking around to buying a new laptop, sorry, I hate apple and don't want a MBP. The display is nice but OSX is a no go for the applications I use. So I want a windows based ultrabook with an ivy bridge, but apparently I can't find them anywhere.

what gives? I'm guessing there's a huge surplus of SB ultrabooks , because thats all I can find.

It is because Intel delayed the release of Ivy Bridge dual core CPUs. They will be available "really soon." For instance, Amazon is now accepting pre-orders for the Samsung Series 9 13.3" ultrabook (0.50" thick, 2.55 pounds) with Ivy Bridge, quoting 6/15 stock date.

IVB ultrabooks are coming, in a month, they'll be models from all the big players. SB ultrabooks are plentiful because they've been available for a long time and all the major players are on their second(at least) iteration.

lol I know what you mean. lots of coupons / deals have been the past few weeks but I hope they may have newer deals closer to august. The fall term doesnt start until the end of august so I'll just wait as long as I can to pick one up. Hopefully they'll have lots of 6hr+ laptops designed.

I bought this from Newegg, MSI GE60 0NC-006US, $1150, Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.3GHz CPU, Intel HM77 chipset, 750GB SATA HDD - came partitioned C: 412GB & 274GB, nVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 2GB GDDR5 graphics memory,DVD Writew/Lightscribe.

I'm VERY happy with it but haven't really stressed it yet. The internal Intel 4000 grfx is good for email, web, typing, etc. and the nVidiaGT 650 looks amazing using the HDMI output to my 46" HDTV. This is the lower end of what's availabel. If you go up to more RAM and the bigger 17.3" screen you pump in another $500 real quick. This one has a good mix; 2x USB 2, 2x USB 3, Memory Card port, WiFi & Bluetooth, decent battery life.

Samsung, ASUS and others should be available now
