does anyone make a 17" 1600x1200 LCD? they used to make 15" ones for notebooks all the time, but they've never made them for desktops as far as i know. i want one (well, 2)!!

yep i know. i would buy a 19" lcd if they were 1600x1200. either that or a widescreen...i don't know why nobody is making those. i should be running some of these tech companies...i'm always wanting products that nobody makes, which are well within today's technology. it turns out others want these features as well. oh well...i guess i'll stick to my day job.

btw, if you splurge you can get one of those dell 20" lcds for $850 or so and they do 1600x1200.

yeah, i looked at those, but a 20" screen is grotesquely big in comparison to the 19" CRTs i have right now. plus dropping $1500 before taxes on monitors is a bit out of my price range atm.

i wonder how they can justify making high res notebook screens and then say no one wants a high res desktop screen. the notebook i'm on right now is 1400x1050 and only 14.1" across... i don't think i could work on a 1280x1024 screen too damn small

IMO, most people don't use 1600x1200, so that's why they don't make it. For me I wouldn't be able to stand 17" 1600x1200.

well, i'm using a 17" lcd at the moment, and it's 1280x1024 resolution is fine. on a 19" screen i could see it being a problem tho.

i've asked that laptop question for years: how can they make an entire computer WITH an LCD screen for under $900!? i remember when desktop lcd's came out, they cost more than a laptop computer with the same sized screen. it's rediculous.

i'm personally waiting at least a year or two until something substantial is released on the market. i would jump on a reasonably priced 19" lcd with 16ms response time, 1600x1200, and dvi. we're just not there yet, unless you have money to burn.

no, they don't make it because it costs them money. remember, each pixel on an lcd costs money to make.

if that was really the case, then why do so many laptops come with high resolution screens?

ideally i'd have 18" 1600x1200 LCDs, which would be the exact same pixel size as my two CRTs
