Anyone have a bead on where they are at?

Gary - Are you guys getting a board anytime soon? I really enjoyed following the DQ6 680i thread and thought I would beat TheBeagle to the punch!

The DQ6 at $350 is just too much and from what I've read/what I need, I'm looking forward to the 650i board.

They just shipped review samples yesterday, probably be three of four days before I get it. I did receive the MSI, so far, looking to be a decent board.

Thanks so much Gary! Great job on the DQ6 preview, you addressed all the questions I had, and unfortunately for Gigabyte, confirmed that it is not the board for me.

Is the MSI the Platinum Version or the - FI version? In the DQ6 preview you mentioned that you will be doing a 680i/650i roundup, will the MSI and the Gigabyte be part of this?

Thanks again,

I like how that article from Techspot only mentioned one time that the 680I supports 1333 and failed to mention it again at the end when list what your really giving up not to mention the claims of them doubting the over-clocking is any better on the 680I then not posting any results?? That totally baffles me the whole time I'm reading to get to the OC comparison and there just isn't one ROFL must be April fools no wait its only March 1'st(if you aint been to bed yet) It was to my understanding that the 8800 series card are capable of actually being able to exceed the threshold of 8 express lanes maybe this is the reason they didn't overclock in thier results. With the 8950's and 8950X2's supporting Quad SLi just around the corner and the ATi counter-card I would hate to be sitting on an 8x by 8x SLi motherboard that is restricting my better than a half thousand dollars supply of video cards(closer to 1200 in my case) ohh time to by a new motherboard and with the 1333 processors 8 months away I guess that 650i mobo wasn't such a long lasting buy. Guess it's time for the hassle of eBay or throw it in the pile of unused pc componets awaiting enough useable unused componets to bring together a working secondary system.
I think the last line should say: If your not planning on upgrading to 1333 or using SLI in the next year and a half to two years then why buy the 680i.

EDIT
But then things just arent like the past when concerning this chipset. If the 680i boards are costing three times the 650i boards then you have to use your 680i board for three years to make it worth buying over the 650i board that you'll probley replace next year due to 1333fsb.. This versus the better chipset not costing more than twice the "value" chip while beiing on the flagship motherboard. Actually giving you a savings if you can push three years out of it.

Gary...it's been 3 or 4 days, any luck with gettin' ur hands on this board?

Sidenote: I'm newer to the tracking the "bleeding edge" hardware game, but for boards that were announced in Nov. '06 it sure is taking a while to get these things to market?

Thanks for the info.

The information I received last night is the N650SLI-DS4 will be released sometime in April. The other bit of news we received is the 650i Ultra will finally be launched in April also.

I see the GA-N650SLI-DS4 boards have come up in stock this week. However, no reviews anywhere. When will we see one? Or are this release anticlimactic since it was announced in Nov. 2006?

Well, pumped about it or not I got it from ClubIT. Not built yet but it's a nice looking board. I pulled the heatsinks off the NB/SB and scraped the TIM to apply AS Ceramique. I'm not too happy on the NB HS mount. It doesn't seem to press onto the chip firmly enough and there is absolutely NO way to tell. There's a thin box of foam tape that interfaces to the PCB package of the chip and at the far ends of those 2 wings are a set of thick foam that interfaces with the motherboard itself. The spring loaded screws don't seem to load up before they hit the thread stop and you can't screw them any further.

On the other hand, an Ultra 120 extreme will fit on this board. The heatpipes fit in the V shaped gap right by the CPU socket. It's so close I swear Gigabyte took a sample and built the HS around it.

We have a retail sample board now, this board took too long to go through the "maturity" process before release. Review is scheduled for 5/14.

First Impressions -

C2D overclocking, 510 stable but 480 is a little faster after tuning the memory, CPU-Z screen shots up to 526.

Quad Core overclocking, 340 stable, the BIOS needs GTLRef settings, begging Gigabyte for them at this time.

Memory performance is very good, 1:1 Sync is working up to 480FSB, needs some tweaking to hit 500, after 500 the strap changes so memory performance tanks.

The board has been very stable, performance has been excellent, and the NB heatsink really works.

From who? There's a few other threads mentioning the board. I'm happy with mine and working on OCing an e6420. A quick attempt last night had me at 375x8 with no hiccups. I'm being cautious because I'm attempting to maintain low noise. That OC resulted in a 5C increase running Orthos without me raising my fan speeds.
