Growing up I remember watching a decent amount of prime time black tv shows like the Cosby show and Family Matters. I was thinking about it today and I cannot think of any black prime time shows on right now or in recent history. Cleveland show doesn't count. Other more recent black shows I remember are the Hughleys and Bernie Mac. I think a couple of years ago there was a show with that football guy with the tooth gap that had a few episodes but it seems like they killed it really quick.

I know Tyler Perry has a half a dozen shows going on at any one time on TBS but that isn't prime time network.

Sanford & Son, Good Times ("Dyn-o-mite!") , and a few other shows were staples of my youth. Some of the comments in this thread, however, are really pushing the limits of what's allowed in these forums as far as racist posts go. I'm pre-emptively locking this thread to maybe save a few posters from vacation time, as they continue to push the limits. -Admin DrPizza

BET and TBS isn't enough? At this point TBS = The Black Station with all of Perry's crap, and it's obviously watched or they wouldn't give him more shows to do.

There used to be a lot on UPN, don't know what network that's called now.

BET is nothing but a construction of The Man, existing solely to force black people pay for full cable to find any television programming relating to them.

Cosby Show and Family Matters were practically white TV shows.
Jeffersons and such were more for black audiences. In the 90s the only show for blacks that wasnt deliberately stupid (ie Martin, In Living Color) was Roc. It promoted healthy black community values and tried hard to stay away from dumb shit and racism.

Why, because Cosby didn't adhere to racial stereotypes?

No no, it is because the shows didn't portray the bread winners as poor people barely making a living. Nor was every white guy that appeared on the show evil (see the fresh prince of bel air for that).

That is what irritates me most about black shows. The white guy is almost always the bad guy or some nerdy weird person. They never try and stop making race a big issue.

"Black TV" is just ghetto shit. Any other kind of "black TV" will be the same as regular TV. Black people, and white people together, acting pretty much normally, which is what we have now.

Well, the problem is that we really don't have shows with even mixtures of black and white folk. It is usually a whole cast of whites with a token black guy or a whole show filled with black guys.

The next big problem is that black shows are usually extremely racist. Pretty much every time a white guy comes on the show he is evil.
