What happened was an email floated around the Clinton camp when some of this 1st surfaced. They checked into it but didn't find anything and did not go public with it.

Not only did the GOP go public without evidence but they made shit up. Phony Kenyan birth certificates, birther bills, etc.

Were the Hillary supporters that started the rumor racists? Why doesn't the GOP do this for every other black person running for political office?

Clintons didn't start the rumors. Again they looked into it and found nothing. If there were some factual evidence the Clintons would have.

Wikipedia disagrees with you.

Anyways, your claim is that the GOP wanted to see Obama's birth certificate because he's black and they're racist. So again, why doesn't the GOP force every black person running for political office (Dem or Rep) to produce their birth certificate?

Because you don't have to be a born citizen to run for most high offices.

To quote the great Drew Rosenhause..."next question"

So just to be clear. You think that the GOP is going to single out every minority that runs for the presidency and request a copy of their birth certificate?

What about the minority cabinet members during the Bush administration? How did the racist GOP allow that to happen? How about Michael Steele? That one must really boggle your mind.

Republicans (and before them Democrats that supported Hillary) attack Obama because he's on the other team, not because he's black. What is so hard to understand about that?

I can't predict the future. But you are trying to say of all the Democratic candidates in the general election it's a total coincidence they did it to the first black one, and there were no racial considerations whatsoever? Doubt it.

We've already gone over this. They saw a potential weakness and they attacked it. He had a strange background and upbringing, it's called politics, get over it.

Can't the GOP candidates just release it 2 years after they've defeated Obama? That seems to be the standard.

I consider myself a conservative, not a Repub, but yeah I want a decent system of actually confirming a candidates eligibility for office BEFORE running.

Several bills were introduced, but at the time Pelosi was Speaker and they never saw the light of day.

It's just irresponsible not to have system of verification IMO.

Sounds like a job for the next President.

Obama won't do it because of the publicity (and I don't blame him)

Romney, Bachman, Perry? I know the Dems are too classy to question GOP candidates citizenship but I thought Republicans wanted a new standard for candidates?

Ummm.... not to cite the obvious but has anyone ever had any reason to question their birth status?

I'm no birther but in order for a conspiracy theory to take hold there has to be SOMETHING that looks fishy. It doesn't have to be big, in fact it can be completely innocent. It just has to be big enough for a CT nut to start creating a fascinating story around it. Obviously, with Obama... Kenyan dad... questionable BC. Conspiracy Theory!!!

Pretty sure you could figure out a way to start a CT around any of the three about SOMETHING if you looked hard enough but I doubt there's even a microscopic thread of 'evidence' that a CT nut could try to wrap a story around that would make anyone wonder if those three were truly born in America to US Citizens. Except for the whole Bachman/Alien thing... that might have legs. :hmm:

I'm guessing the OP knows this which makes this a big race bait thread. Which really... that's kind of sad.

He's a black American that isn't poor and he lived in the most Islamic country in the world for a few years.

Yeah I guess that makes him a non-American. Unlike his opponent who was not even born on US soil. The Democrats had the class to say, this will not be an issue. The GOP decided to scare their base with the "secert Kenyan Muslim" stuff

Chairman LEAHY. We will come back to that. I would mention one other thing, if I might, Senator Specter. Let me just ask this:

I believe—and we have had some question in this Committee to have a special law passed declaring that Senator McCain, who was born in the Panama Canal Zone, that he meets the constitutional requirement to be President. I fully believe he does. I have never had any question in my mind that he meets our constitutional requirement. You are a former Federal judge. You are the head of the agency that executes Federal immigration law. Do you have any doubt in your mind—I mean, I have none in mine. Do you have any doubt in your mind that he is constitutionally eligible to become President?

Secretary CHERTOFF. My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural- born American citizen

if that's accurate then McCaine had no right to run either.
You must be born in the U.S. not flown in after birth to have it faked.

They let Sarah Palin on a plane while she was in labor, that is, if you beleive her story.

I believe her actually. I fully accept that Sarah Palin is the type of inconsiderate, selfish monster that would put at serious risk the life of her special needs child to suit her own desire to have that child born on Alaskan soil. Especially considering a Down's Syndrome birth comes with additional risks to the life of the child that she was full aware of at the time.

Speaking of the birth certificate imbroglio...

http://news.yahoo.com/air-force-discharging-sergeant-doubts-obama-214651994.html

"OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Air Force said Wednesday it is discharging a hero of the so-called birther movement who refused to report to duty in Germany for a few days earlier this month because he doubts President Barack Obama's citizenship.

Staff Sgt. Daryn Moran expects to be discharged within the next week. Although the 41-year-old Nebraska man refused to report to duty and had called for Obama's arrest in statements on websites, several other things contributed to his discharge, including his opposition to Obama's decision to allow gays to serve openly in the military."

I find his last name to be hilariously appropriate... lol
