With the way things are going, majority of us might not even get it until next year. The 290 seems to be on everyone's list right now and chances are it will be sold out the moment it becomes available.

Does this have something to do with the last-minute 47% fan change, so now they have to go back into production lines to make sure the CD drivers are the "47%" drivers, or even the "updated-47%-uses-rpm-rather-than-PWM" drivers?

No, custom models use custom bios and heatsink/fan so its not an issue. Looks like a supply issue, because 1 full month after a launch, AIBs should already have a big inventory for launch.

This late in the life of the node is weird.

I mean, GK110 is a bigger die, so yields on the 290/290X should be higher.

they have been churning out those chips almost 2 years. Hawaii? Not so much. Just because the fab is mature at that node does not mean that the design is mature.

there is a reason why 290 x was a lot more scarce at launch than 290. there's a reason why the last minute they removed advertised base clocks. this was even after a delay. AMD was forced to get the card out to tie in with BF4.

wow, I wonder if EA realizes is that by rushing out bf 4 to be ahead of COD, they caused a crap storm in the GP world.

It explains why BF4 is the buggiest BF ever, EA rushed. Graphics glitches and sound bugs.. not good for a AAA title.
