Where are Outlook files stored?

GasX

Lifer
and are they the pst files? I know Outlook archives with pst files, but I don't know if there are any other files that include your mail, contacts, etc...

oh, that's bad - they seem to have been lost during the OS reinstall...

if you lose the pst, you lose everything in outlook...

not if you are smart and steer clear of outlook and outlook express!
we don't even allow them to be installed around here.

i never had a problem with outlook. also i backup regularly (paranoia)

ok - when I reinstalled the OS, I did NOT reformat. Why would the pst be gone as many other files remained?

Also, if you reinstall Outlook, do you lose everything that was there before?

not sure

but it's always a good idea to back up everything as if you are formatting the drive

kind of hard to back-up when the reinstall is brought about by the OS going haywaire... :-\

?

yes, undelete them

that is, if they were deleted... dont get me started
you guys speakie the english?

he maybe talking about the program "undelete"

i dont know much about file recovery though

anyway it's true the file may still be there but it would be hard to recover it esp that it might be overwritten already

I think the reason the files are gone is because they are stored in the Document and Settings folder by default, not Program Files. When you reinstalled Windows it likely overwrote this directory.

The files are *IN* the computer!

Here's your problem most likely.
The default directory for the outlook files is your user directory C:\documents and settings\etc
So when you reinstalled windows, that directory is erased. Hence no more outlook files.
I move these files to a different directory when I setup outlook, but only because I've run into this problem before.

Edit: ddjkdg beat me to it... I'm suprised it took so long for this response to surface here.
