When you logon Anandtech proudly shows that there are 40-50,000 registered users with 200 to 500 users loged on. Where are they??? All the posts are from the same hundred people. When you check for updated questions in some forms, ie Video or Networking and there will be only 10 entries in the last 12 hours. Is the form on the way out?? Hope not as I have learned much from the form. Now if I could only spell and type. R.

there are almost 50,000 registered users, but alot of them are inactive. Check out the off topic forum. I swear, ever reload pops up 5 new mesages.

Rick, as I have said in the past the whos on is by no means accurate. It ONLY COUNTS people that have ACTUALLY LOGGED IN. Not people that are browsing without logging which is 2x to 3x the actual logged in amount. At any given time there are at least 1500 open sessions here. Do not judge a book by its cover :)

Many, many registered users are "inactive" posters.
There are any number reasons this could be: permanent bannings, "joke" user names like "PaulsonLovesHubbs" and "BanandtechModerator", people who registered and posted like 0-5 times (and then left for good), and of course there are many registered lurkers who very rarely post.

Even though the number of users who actually post in a given month is nowhere near 50,000, I am still guessing that forum traffic is at an all time high. Zuni stated that an average of 270,000 messages are posted each month. Divide that by 31, and you'll see that these forums are not "on the way out". :)
