I grew up in the 80's and it seems like there were a lot of teen angst movies. Most of the movies that I've seen advertised during the 90's and 00's have been mostly about kids getting wasted and chasing chicks. Are there still teen angst movies that I'm just not seeing?

Do you want a movie about teenagers being depressed, threatening suicide, vomiting up just eatin meals, and rebelling against rules, even if they make sense? Something tells me that they wouldnt sell many tickets to something like that.

Not necessarily. I just wondered why we haven't had movies like that since the 80's. There still seems to be plenty of teen angst out there with plenty of troubled kids. Look at Columbine after all. You can't tell me that a teen angst movie wouldn't find an audience.

recommend me a good teen angst movie. I'm sick of the junk they've been making lately too.

All of which were made in the 80's (most of them) and thus supporting the original poster's point.

I'm glad their gone. They sucked butt!

The best part about them are the parodies (Not Another Teen Movie)

Enough trite tripe makes it to the screen already. Do we really need more of another genre (if indeed that's what it is)?

You probably just haven't noticed them. I haven't seen many of these, but off the top of my head, the ones that would seem to fit the genre include A Walk to Remember, How to Deal, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Igby Goes Down, Elephant, and Ghost World.

Then again, a lot of those are darker than most of the entries from the 80s, which is probably why they were small releases and never got anywhere at the box office.

Try Dazed and Confused, Empire Records, 10 things I hate about you, and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Dazed and Confused was about the late 70's and early 80's though even though it was shot in the 90's. I did see 10 things I hate about you and agree. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the 80's though, wasn't it? Late 80's.

Another movie from the 80's was Reckless with Aidan Quinn. I liked that movie.

You can't tell me that Better Off Dead or Valley Girl sucked. Come on..

I just thought of another one.. Donnie Darko. That was in the 90's or early 00's. I guess there were teen angst movies, but since I'm no longer a teen or don't have any kids, I'm kind of out of the loop.

BTW.. There were plenty of underground teen angst movies in the 80's as well. I just noted the more mainstream one's because you guys probably never heard of the other ones.
