Where and how to find cheap/used excercise equipment

Check tag-sales or garage sales. Sometimes i pick up some pretty cool stuff for a few bucks. It's worth a try.

Do you have Play It Again Sports stores near you? Bargains can sometimes be had at these stores.

Garage sale might be your best be for a really good deal.....plenty of people invest in treadmills/stationary bikes/etc, but very few stick with it.

You can find some decent (but not exceptional) deals on eBay, either paying the $150-200 freight or if you're lucky finding a local seller. I got a Lifecycle this way, they're expensive enough that used + freight was still about half the cost of new.

If your budget is under $1,000 you almost have to go hunting through garage / estate sales, Recycler classifieds, etc. or buy a cheap unit with a weak motor.

Don't go cheap on a treadmill, you'll regret it very, very quickly.

Garage Sales, seriously go out on a saturday morning and look. People buy these things and realize the have no room for it and are not going to use it.
