When's the best time to run memory benchmarks?

Hi,

I'm using SiSoft's Sandra version 2000.3.6.4 to run some memory benchmark
tests. The first thing I do is reboot the computer, then shutdown all
processes except systray and explorer (in the CTL-ALT-DEL section). After
doing that, I run the benchmark. Numbers below:

1st time - 224/255
2nd time- 233/268
3rd time - 236/271
4th time - 242/279

As you can see, if I run the test multiple times, the numbers seem to get
better. I thought that the numbers should stay pretty consistent, but as
you can see, there is roughly a 20 point spread between both the CPU and the
FPU numbers.

Could the system be caching the data? Are these results expected? When/How
many times
should I run the tests to get most accurate results?

Thanks,
Brian

P.S. I have 128MB of EMS's HSDRAM and the P3V4X.

Hmmm.. I'm not sure, I think you should trust the first number (??)..

Did you run it more than 4 times? If so does it keep increasing? I don't think it could be caching the data...

I did run it around 6 times, and the last 3 times (4,5,6) seem to be consistant. I figured I would run the test 6 times and then take the average of the last 3. It's just that it doesn't really make much sense why there is a "ramp up" period.

Thanks,
Brian

the memory doesnt cache the data, but your proccessor caches the instructions, since you used them several times in a row,
