Whenever someone's selling a CPU and says something like "I got it up to 4.8GHz"

I feel like they're offering me their ex-girlfriend who's had 48 dicks in her already. I don't want to know! Just keep her at stock speed, man.

Personally, I like a virgin CPU in my box. I don't want to know that your hot, sweaty heat pipes have been keeping her cool at night.

I mean, any used CPU has likely been overclocked, but don't tell me about it, ok?

Peak temps matter much more than peak clock, but no one is going to report that. You could probably get an answer by demonstrating interest, though, OCers love to talk about their rigs, and if the temps were low they'll brag about it.

The same thing I feel when browsing on cl for cars, reads "salvaged title, but running great!"
48+1 dicks smashed it. It's a totaled (loss) for a reason.

I feel like it's offering me their supermodel girlfriend who won the genetic lottery given that a CPU reaching high clock rates is a matter of luck of the manufacturing coming out right. It's high voltages that reduce a CPU's lifespan. If the CPU hits a high clockspeed at a safe voltage, it's just an awesome chip.

Only a dumbass buys a used cpu without checking the clock speed and temperature history

How the fuck are you going to check it?

Did you take extra dumbass pills today?

I dunno. I think it's pretty neat that I am running my 2500k @ 5GHz stable.
(If you think 24 Hours Prime/OCCT is worth calling stable.) Also BIOS modded my Zotac GTX580 to run with massive voltage and overclock past it's already overclocked speed.

faster encoding

need high CPU speeds for multi-GPU setups

I have a i4770k that I initially overclocked but just keep it at stock now. don't do anything that would take advantage of higher CPU speed so just don't care right now.

I feel the same way about decent video cards. They manage to burn up at stock speeds fast enough already, so why shove the video card into an early grave just to get a 2-5% increase over stock speeds? Like those few extra FPSs are going to mean the difference between someone completely sucking at a game or not with all the video options turned all the way up. Not very likely. So if I spend good money on a decent video card, why screw it up for so little gain?

I stopped buying anything used that could have been overclocked. Got a iffy video card once. Now I buy new.

It's like putting your supermodel girlfriend in a creampie gangbang scene.
