Whenever I save .MP3s, they are saved as ".mpga"!! Why?

Windows 95 for now. my dual boot isn't working. I don't see why cpu is relevant, but it's a pii-266.

when you mean SAVE them, do you mean like after you download them they turn into mpga, or are you encoding wav's into mp3's- but they are not saving as .mp3 rather .mpga?

I have a website where I download mp3s. Well, I went to save them (in .mp3 format) and my computer automatically sames them to .mpga instead of mp3.

It seems like the mime type definitions of your browser are whacked out for some reason. Which browser are you using?

I don't know if IE will let you directly modify mime types. Netscape and Mozilla do.

Go into File Types through Windows Explorer and try to find a definition for mp3 files, and delete it. Next time you download an mp3, the filename should be correctly entered.

If I remember correctly, it's View / Folder Options / File Types.

If you can't figure it out after that, you probably should not be allowed to operate a computer.

Does the .mpga file have a real audio icon? If so, rename all the files to mp3 and choose another program to associate with mp3's.
