Whenever I open my laptop I always hear a crack sound.

Wrong forum maybe? It could be your hinges. I had to replace the hinge assembly on my fiancée's dell inspiron a while back since they began to wear and creak. Eventually stress cracks developed and it broke. Somewhat of a common problem. I'd suggest checking with the manufacturer.

Depends on the model and if you can get someone to fix it for free or not. We got the hinge assembly on ebay pretty cheap since it was a few years old. YMMV. What is the make/model of the laptop?

Edit: Sometimes this type of damage may be covered under warranty, especially if it is a known issue.

Seems like a newer model. I googled it and found a few reviews. The specs seem to be up to date. Looks like the manufacturer may be the best bet.

What I found...

Not sure if this is it, but should probably be close. Chances are it may be nothing to worry about. Could just need some lubrication.

Will the manufacture be willin to fix for free?

I have heard the same thing - it is the sign of a tight hinge that will most likely break. Lubing them is not easy. I was able to do it with a needle and some liquid silicon inserted carefully into the hinge.

This is not uncommon with laptop hinges.

Yea they will fix it for free. But you have to ship it to them. They will ship it back, usually 2nd day or overnight. I like HP's/Compaqs rma's....
