Customer rant/ - It seems like the local Super WM has their stock delivered on Saturday. So at the busiest possible time of the day (Saturday afternoon), they add to the confusion with stockers running up and down the aisles piling boxes and generally making a nuisance of themselves. Why, in a store that is open 24/7, can't they restock the shelves when the store isn't as busy? >>
Very good question. Being the customer service rep. that I am (

), I feel a need to share my store's procedure with you.
Ok, as I previously stated, I work for Whole Foods. I'm not sure if it's any different w/ 24 hour stores since we're only open 8 am - 10 pm but I figure it would be about the same.
We get grocery stock Mon, Wed, Fri, and the staples (bread, water, milk) come Saturday as well. Our shipments typically come at around 3-4 am and then the receiving team takes out the palettes, checks everything to make sure it's all there, and then it's thrown to the grocery department who arrives ~ 7-8 am to start stockin'!
They get there and face (push everything to the front so it looks pretty) for as long as necessary so the store looks good for the initial customers. Then they stock/face all day. Stocking ends at around 5-6 pm usually since there's always a combination of the two going on and once. After that, it's all facing. So when it looks like they're stocking at the worst possible times, it isn't to be a hindrance to the customers who are trying to move about the aisles. It just has to get done as quickly as possible so they can face later.
This all occurs at a relatively medium-sized store that is probably only about 1/2 the size of a Jewel/Dominick's store around here. Since they are open 24 hours, I assume they are much larger (like the stores here) and they have TONS of stuff to stock/face. I wouldn't think many people work the graveyard shift so even if they get to work through the night, 1,2, or even 3 guys couldn't dent all the stuff they have to get done.
To conclude, yes it is a nuisance that stocking has to be done while customers are in the store (trust me, it is lots harder since customers are continually asking you questions because you're just sitting there), but we have no other choice. Although I do agree that the aisles need to be widened. We need another lane for our cart drag races

j/k ..... or am I ?
