Do you feel any obligation to them? What would you and would you not do.

Some examples:
1. give them money
2. buy them food
3. give them sponge baths
4. entertain them
5. clean their bed pan
.
.
.

I'd do all those things, or at least pay someone else to on #3 and #5;) Parents aren't disposable ya know.

But there's a difference between giving your life for them and living for them. There are people who would die for their parents but would never tell them they love them. Sometimes dying is easier than living.

I would too. I ask because it seems like many people just throw their parents out. Many people send their parents away to retirement homes (some are really awful) and never visit.

My parents did all that for me from the time I was born until I was able to care for myself. I would gladly do as much for them and more if necessary.

maybe listing the culture you come from would add useful info also. I know some cultures like Indian and Eskimo one where old people are expected to commit suicide since they are not considered useful to society anymore. This sounds awful, but I understand where it comes from -- the food and resources saved can feed and keep others alive.

what I would really like to do is buy my parents a mansion and let them live in a relaxing and comfortable environment, and also make sure they get some vacation time to travel the world. Well, thats what my mom always wanted.

I think age also plays a big factor in this... and I think if too many people keep responding so positively to the question that it will scare away anyone with a differing position. Nothing you can do about that, just an observation.

Of course, My dad died a year and a half ago, and after 29 years of giving to me, (and my 7 other siblings) I gave all I could to him when he was sick.
Still would like to buy my mom a huge mansion, or whatever kind of house she wants, and have a live-in staff to do everything for her.

I think that my parents, more than anything, would just like me to spend time w/ them when they get older.. and i know that I would gladly do that.... they'll probably just like to hang around, my mom would probably like to cook for me (she's the best cook and enjoys it so much when i enjoy her food), they're very giving people.. they like people to be around for them to please... it sorta sounds selfish on my part, but i know that they wouldnt have it any other way.. I can try and try and try to give them things, or do things for them.... i dunno though, and id rather not think about it.. weve got awhile til that happens hopefully....

they can have my money but not my time.

I would do whatever needed to be done to keep them happy and comfortable. I would take care of them if need be.

I am.

My parents are kinda annoying and not really helpful. they usually make things worse when they try to help and then try to enforce their view points on everyone else (Mom yelled at me for 30 minutes for letting my accountant fill out my FASFA forms, I paid for it not her, and besides forms get complicated when you have asssets). My mother always blames someone else for her own faults. Once she kicked over a bottle of soysauce in the basement and then blamed my father for putting it there. (it was on the floor next to a metal storage shelf with a bunch of other crap) and whenever you having a conversation with someone she just buts in. When you go to the mall, you know those people who walk in the middle of the isle really slow? thats my mom.
