When you wash dress shirts, do you take the plastic tabs off the collar?

... what plastic tabs?

*consult dress shirts*
I see no plastic tabs. If there ever WERE plastic tabs, I, and everyone else I know, remove them before wearing.

They start to crack and bend after a while. I never remember to, though, so I bought a big thing of replacements at Century 21 for like $3.

I think I know what he's talking about.

There are small plastic tabs in some dress shirts around the collar.

Most of the cheap brands do not have these. Most of you probably buy your dress shirts from JC Penny anyway.

I know I do. My dress shirts from department stores work just fine and I don't have to drop a boatload of cash for a couple shirts.

I always thought those were part of the packaging and removed them before wearing.

I usually do. If you wash them with them in there they get messed up.

For people who don't know what they are, they are these plastic tabs that fit into the collar to keep it straight.

They're not going to melt, just warp a little maybe, in which case you can always buy replacements of varying qualities...mine stay in the shirt when it gets washed.

JC Penny's is a low level "department store." Almost like a discount department store. Somewhere such as Macy's, Nordstrom, or Saks is respectable.

Yeah, I'm always worried that someone at work will sneak up on me to check the tags on my work shirts.

I myself can stop a cheap shirt from an expensive one just at a glance.

Well, the CEO, CFO, Controller, and IT Manager at my workplace don't seem to mind or notice. I think all my work shirts came from Pennys or Dillards.

In response to the OP, I always remove mine. It just seems logical.

My Robert Talbott shirts come with metal ones. And as someone mentioned earlier, they're collar stays. They should come out before you wash or take the shirt to the cleaners.
