When you upgrade, what do you do with your old stuff?

From the looks of things, most of us are on at least a 6-month upgrade cycle. I'm curious what you do with your old hardware.

I gave a lot of my stuff away to the users here and auction off some stuff on e8ay and give some to local non-profit people who needs it.

I have got a
C366 oc 567/103
Creative TNT2ultra
Quantum 6.4G 5400rpm
Sound Blaster 16
that is in my drawer

it is a waste, since i upgraded to a 700E, along with GTS and some newer IBM 7200

now i wanted to get some old BX mobo that will work with the chip as well as a new case,
then i might network the 2 together and have some more RC5 cracking 🙂

keep the best stuff, its fun to have a second system around that's not as fast, but i can have friends over and play games vs em, or i can have one sys as a burner, and data storage, also good to have asys to test parts, test new proggies, or i sell stuff, or donate it to friends, but my recent set of "old stuff" got turned into the house server, so now i hafta find a p 133 or somthing to make into a linux server

I sell most of my "old" (<6 months!) stuff here if there is a decent market for it. I only turn to e-bay if there is a big spread between the going rate here and there. For the most part, I hawk my video cards on e-bay and everything else here.

I usually intend to sell em or build another system but usually just have tons of stuff lying about. I really feel bad when I spend a lot of money on something and know deep down that its worthless but I cant part with my stuff. Like my 2 monster 3d2 cards, I spent 400 dollars and they are absolutely worthless now. My wife hates me.

Hey, I still have my two Monster2 boards... Of course I only paid $75 for them...

😀

Eventually, most of my stuff gets recycled into systems of my family members. My sister has my old Pentium 100/64MB, & my brother is in line to inherit my K6-2 @ 504.

Viper GTS

They become hand-me-downs. They usually go from me, to my younger brother, then finally to my girlfriend. The next time I upgrade, my current computer will then go to my brother, and his current computer will go to my gf.

Hey Viper, that's kind of what's gone on with my stuff. Basically, my family has all my old computers.

Nonetheless, I still have some old junk lying around:

Diamond Monster 3D card (I guess I keep it out of sentimentality)
5 1/4 floppy drive (I never know when I might get a hankerin' to re-install X-Wing!)
256k video card (why I'm still hanging on to this, I don't know)
Trident 1mb video card (ditto above)
More junk I've forgotten about

Old software? Let's not even go there...

Normally it becomes hand-me-down(s) for my brothers or parents.

Sometimes I sell stuff, but not often.

Rick

I try to recycle them into functional computers...
But I do have stuff collecting dust, eg STBv4400, 4mb pci s3 vid card, lots of NICs, SB16 ISA with IDE and accompanying Creative 4x cd-rom drive, etc etc
