When you see a cop commit some minor traffic infraction,

I saw a cop drive up in the right turn only lane on my way back from lunch this afternoon. He didn't have his lights on and as soon as the light changed he went straight and merged in with traffic.

It doesn't really bother me but I've seen many people here complain about such behavior.

Discuss.

I'd rather have police making minor traffic violations and covering more ground in there section than sitting at red lights all day.

It bothers me more when they are blatant about it....

Like today on I-94 in Michigan...a state trooper passed me going EASY 100+ MPH without his lights on. I don't know if he was responding to a call or whatnot...but without your lights and sirens at dusk well thats just dangerous and make you as the cop look kinda bad.

I said yes because it's contagious and soon everyone drives like idiots like in many big cities. I mean one cop or person is no biggie to me but then everyone gets the idea they can drive like idiots if in a hurry and make roads a dangerous place.

Yes it annoys the crap out of me. They should be bound by the same laws we are unless they are responding to a call.

Was an interesting story a year or so ago I think where a news team filmed a pair of cops pull in on the wrong side of the street (against traffic) and parked in a No Parking area on the curb. They went in to get food (they were filmed the whole time) and came out a while later. Obviously not a call about a robbery, rape, or other disturbance. Personally I think they should have been disciplined over it but I don't think anything substantial ever came of it.

Yes.

Why?

Its called Hypocrisy. I wouldn't mind if they didn't write you tickets which result in hefty fines and insurance increases. This shouldn't be rocket science.

It irks me a bit. I had an acquaintance and her friend killed by a speeding police cruiser (responding to another's officer's backup request, was cruising @ 120+ with no lights on residential street with a 35mph posted limit). I didn't know her that well, worked with her, but it was pretty horrible. I can't imagine what her family went through, she had just turned 18 a few days before. That's been 13 years ago already, but seems like yesterday.

Do as I say, not as I do? Isn't this what all people who have authority promote?

Blowing a red light to get a burger is one thing...but I don't expect any cop to sit at a red light at 3am with no traffic around.

It bothers me a lot, rule of law was made for a reason.

like if I were to drive parallel to a cop going 80 on the high way, he will probably stop me, and saying he was going the same speed as me probably wouldnt help me

There are plenty of other more important things to worry about but these kind of things do bother me. I mean they're breaking the very rules/laws that they're out to enforce. What kind of example are they setting when they break them themselves while on duty?

no, just the ones that think they are above the rules.

i chose cheese pie. i dont bust a vein thinking about it, but i do care about it. i stretched my arms at a stop light one time, with my left arm ouot the window. smacked a motorcycle cop in the helmet as he was riding between cars, which is illegal here in the az. he had the audacity to yell at me. i told him to give me a ticket for it and let the judge decide. he decided that wasnt worth it and left. im rarely rude to cops, especially when im the driver, but this asshat was wrong. i see cops doing dumb shit all the time while im driving around.

I have enough problems of my own to worry about. If their action doesn't affect me, I don't really care what they do.

I hate it when cops go 15 mph under the speed limit, then pull over somebody going 10mph under the speed limit because they passed them.

Not really. Unless they are Off Duty and in their Personal Vehicle. One time when I worked Dispatch for a towing company, this Cop had his Personal car towed for being Parked in a Pay Lot without the proper Pass. The asshole was threatening me and the Drivers that were there with being pulled over if we ever were in his jurisdiction(Vancouver, Tow Co. was in nearby city). That really pissed me off and we ended having to call the local Police to have the guy escorted from the premises. He was clearly intoxicated, punching the walls and yelling.

Yes. As a cop you're suppose to set an example. I had one cut me off on a right exit lane just because he decided to change his mind at the last minute. This is one of those lane divided with a curb median so he risked ruining the tires and axle going over it.
