like powerball, do you let the computer pick the numbers or do you pick your own?

i'm thinking picking your own might be better because when the computer picks, its never anywhere close to what the winning numbers are. i only ever get 1 number if that.

It is rare that I play the lottery (Arkansas doesn't have the lottery) however I always let the computer pick the numbers. It has just as good a chance as I do, I would assume..,

My wife plays the lottery every once in a while when the pot gets really big (I don't really see the point in that because your chances of winning are even less then). She uses her own numbers.

I usually let the computer choose my numbers, I get nada most of the time but did get 4 out of 6 a couple months ago that gave me $90. I think it might be smarter however if you are a regular player to pick some numbers and play the same ones all the time. For a while I was thinkign about writing a program for fun to come up with numbers based on combinations that haven't been winners yet.

you're odds of winning never change. that is they are always horrible. on the good side, you should feel good about all the money you are giving to education. (i've seen the numbers, the state gov't makes out very well)

Your odds of winnig don't go up if you pick your own numbers. So next time when you play, just let computer pick the numbers for you to save some time and energy.

the computer always picks stupid numbers though, like it will pick numbers that are really close to each other. wouldn't the chances of having the say 45, 47 and 48 together be higher than say 34, 40, and 48?

i know nothing of statistics or probability or anything like that.

Is this a joke? W(hy)TF would you think that your chances would improve if you manually chose your numbers?

i always know when powerball is getting high, cause the state lottery starts pulling in major dough. next time i'll have to see how much the jackpot goes up compared to what they bring in. of course i guess it's spread over several states...

i'm not saying my chances of winning the jackpot would increase, i'm saying my chances of getting more numbers would increase.

wtf do i even bother posting on here?

Yeah, I don't think your chances of winning are decreased, but bigger pots probably draw bigger ticket sales, which means if you did win, you'd have a greater chance that you'd have to split the prize with someone else.

Well if you pick a set of numbers and stick with them, you odds do improve slightly each time you play

Why? On what basis do you think "40" and "21" have a better chance of being drawn that "40" and "41"?

Absolutly no difference. The numbers 1,2,3 are just as likely to hit as 10, 45, 60.
You have to pick 5 numbers right? you might as well pick 1-5, because it would be much more fun to win with those then a bunch of random numbers.
